(Bonita Springs, Florida, June 21, 2010) — Kathy Guyitt, Florida State Certified General Contractor (1517959) and President of DesignTech of Southwest Florida, Inc successfully completed training to become a Certified Renovator under new United States Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for the containment and disposal of lead-based materials that may be present in structures built prior to 1978.

DesignTech Vice President Jeff Prisco also completed the Certified Renovator course, which trains building professionals and service providers to test for lead, contain lead particles in areas where remodeling work is taking place, dispose of effected construction materials properly, and most importantly to ensure the safety of homeowners and workers during the remodeling process.  With completion of this training, the firm will become certified by the EPA to perform remodeling work in any home or commercial building built prior to 1978 where lead paint or coatings may have been used.

“It is important that homeowners understand the health risks associated with lead in the home,” says Guyitt. “As Certified Renovators, we can help homeowners remodel their older home safely and with peace of mind.”
